STID International Trailer

There's a new "international" trailer floating around for Star Trek Into Darkness which, as you might expect, shows us a bit more as we get closer to the film's release.  (i.e. there may be minor spoilers within if you're trying to go into the experience with zero previous knowledge).

You've probably seen it in a million other places, but if not here it is...

  1. Ok, so there's some Super Bad Guy, the Earth is (once again for the bazillionth time) gonna fry, and only Captain Solo--I mean Kirk--can stop it. Again.

Is it just me, or is maybe Start Wreck SUPPOSED to be more of a small-screen "think piece" (about a mid-level crew struggling...sorry. Wrong movie.)? I mean, it looks like an awesome action flick... but Die Hard in Space doesn't really need those characters, yaknow?

  2. Trek has always been a space adventure. The Abrams-verse films do seem to be (at least based on the '09 movie and the trailers I've seen for its sequel) action films skinned in Trek aesthetics. But they're entertaining nonetheless.

And--at least in the first one--they did manage to drop in some genuine Trek moments. There were some good interactions between the cast, and they had some grand moments that plucked my tired old Trekkie heartstrings--like the beauty shots of the new Enterprise as she rose up out of Saturn's rings, for example.

  3. I enjoyed the early arguments that this was going to be the third appearance of Khan.

  4. Also, when bog-screen Trek went all think-piecey (admittedly in a retread fashion) inThe Motion Picture, the results were...not stellar.
